Tasty Tuesday: Puppy Chow

Get ready for the holiday parties with this scrumptious, fun, crunchy, sweet, treat made with Chex cereal!

Ingredients
  • 9 cups Chex Cereal, your choice on the type
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 1-gallon ziplock bags
Instructions

Place cereal in a large bowl to the side. In a medium microwavable bowl, add chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter. Microwave on High for 1 minute and stir. Microwave 30 seconds longer and stir mixture until smooth. Stir in vanilla. Pour sauce over cereal and stir until evenly coated. Spoon half of the mixture in each 1-gallon resealable ziplock bag. Add 3/4 cup powdered sugar to each bag, and seal. Shake the bag until everything is coated. Spread on waxed/parchment paper to cool. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.

Lalique Le Parfum

While on a trip to the Caymans, I came across this elegant French perfume. It has a warm, vanilla, aroma that I just love! Very comforting, smooth, and long lasting, while not overpowering to the wearer. Great for fall and winter!

Top notes are west Indian bay, bergamot and pink pepper; middle notes are jasmine and heliotrope; base notes are sandalwood, Tonka bean, patchouli and vanilla.

Once back in the state I searched for this perfume online. You can find some great prices here at amazon.com for the 3.3 oz bottle and here at fragrancenet.com for a small sample bottle.

Friday's Five

1. Christmas in November

Although  we are still a  good 3 weeks away from Thanksgiving, we are beginning to see Christmas pop up in stores everywhere. And one of our favorite singers, Zooey Deschanel, and her band She and Him, is releasing a Christmas album this week. The album called A Very She & Him Christmas, will have 12 holiday classics such as "I'll Be Home for Christmas," "Silver Bells" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." The label writes, She & Him have set out to create an intimate holiday recording of Christmas classics that helps bring new emotions out of old songs." Can't wait to hear it!

2. ...while visions of sugar plums danced in their heads...

Friday's Five

1.  Heeled Loafers
One of the things that we (along with the rest of the fashion world) are really loving right now is high heeled loafers!  Usually we're kind of suckers for a twist on a classic and this is no exception.  It's sort of glammed up school girl and we want some now!  And they're so versatile.  Stacked, stiletto, wedge, take your pick!  See some of our favorites below.

2. Hunt for a Red October!

It's baseball post season and our Texas Rangers are gunning for the World Series for the second year in a row!  Currently up 3-2 in the series against the Detroit Tigers, we're rooting for a repeat.  Let's go boys!

3.  Sweet Surprises

We've been a sucker for any sweet story about soldiers surprising their loved ones after a long deployment.  We got sucked into every episode of "Coming Home" and "Surprise Homecoming" that was on tv and were kinda bummed when they ended.  Enter "Welcome Home Blog!"  It's a collection of videos people have sent in of homecoming surprises.  Just make sure you have a box of tissues handy.  Oh, and check out the sister site "Ring on the Finger."  It's proposal videos!  So fun!

4. Sweater Dress

Try a sweater dress for fall. You can pair them with leggings and boots for a fun, flirty look that works great for work or weekends! Jessica Simpson has many in her collection that we think would look great on everyone. View more of her collection here

5. Halloween Joke

A little laugh to start your weekend

Friday's Five

1. Crafting Blogs
I don’t know about the rest of you in the blogosphere, but I love being crafty.  There’s just something about bring able to create something tangible with your own two hands (and maybe a few tools) that’s very fulfilling.  Especially when you can do it for next to nothing!  Of course, I’m not always in the crafting mood.  I go through phases.  But apparently I’m back on the upswing, because I spent a good deal of this week looking through new crafting blogs I’ve found.  And I’m pretty sure I know what I’ll be doing this weekend!  How adorable is this pom pom bib necklace?

And this would be perfect for my beachy bedroom:

Check out these crafty ladies for more inspiration:

2. Shoe Clips
If you’re anything like me, you’ve got some old shoes sitting in the back of your closet that you don’t wear anymore, and yet for some reason, just can’t seem to bring yourself to give away.  Maybe you should try revamping them instead.  Enter shoe clips!  They give your old tired shoes a brand new life!  Or just add a little extra pizzazz to already cute ones!  Take a look at these lovelies!

3. Etsy

I’m assuming most of y’all out there have heard of this website, but if not, get yourself over there pronto!  I could (well, and let’s be honest, totally have) spend hours on this website.  Just about anything you could possibly imagine is for sale here in some form or fashion.  I heart Etsy!

4. New Fall TV!

So excited that some of our favorite standbys (hello NCIS, DWTS, HIMYM, etc) are back on tv.  And a little more excited about new shows out this fall.  We’ve watched the premieres of New Girl (Zooey Deschanel is too adorable), Ringer, Revenge, and we love them all!  Which shows will you be tuning into this fall?

5. Ten Thousand Villages

If you've never heard of it, Ten Thousand Villages is one of the largest fair trade organizations in the world which strives to improve the livelihood of artisans in 38 disadvantaged countries.  Your sale will help pay for "food, education, healthcare and housing for artisans who would otherwise be unemployed or underemployed."  With 390 retail stores, there's bound to be one near you.  If not, check out the website.  They have jewelry, home decor, toys and games for the kiddos, etc.  The stores are fun to peruse through.  I scored the above capiz shell earrings, which were made in the Phillipines.  Go check them out.  You'll be doing a good thing and getting something beautiful in return!
